Job description

The Senior Manager, Land Acquisition and Community Development's job is to oversee the development and execution of a comprehensive land acquisition and community outreach program. This role is responsible for site & gen-tie identification, land entitlement & acquisition, and community engagement. The Senior Manager, Land Acquisition and Community Development, will be an integral member of the origination and greenfield development team and operate at the vanguard of development activities. The candidate will work for a rapidly growing renewable energy company headquartered in San Diego which seeks an innovative, focused, and motivated leader to start a team of professionals doing commercial modeling of projects and deal structures.

Remote candidates will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates who live in or can relocate to San Diego area, CA.

Requirements

  • B.S. or B.A. degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least ten years’ overall business experience with at least five years’ experience in acquiring land for energy projects.
  • At least 3-5 years of utility-scale renewable energy industry development experience
  • Familiarity with state and local permitting of energy projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of complex real estate agreements.
  • Experience with CAISO, MISO, and ERCOT markets is strongly preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
  • Experience working with data rooms such as SharePoint and FTP sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of land acquisition, community engagement, and market intelligence team members.
  • Create, implement, and lead a land acquisition program responsible for real estate and permitting work in connection with greenfield development and M&A transactions.
  • For project acquisition opportunities, manage the due diligence related to real estate matters.
  • Create, implement, and lead a community outreach program that establishes IOWN as a steward of the community in the counties where our projects are located and will be located.
  • Anticipate real estate development needs, issues, conduct site visits, and meet with landowners.
  • Coordinate and review ALTA surveys with surveyors, title companies, and legal counsel, as well as negotiate title insurance.
  • Manage and maintain budgets, scopes of work, and invoices for brokers, real estate consultants, and legal counsels.
  • During project sales and financing due diligence, respond to real estate-related questions.
  • Leverage market intelligence to inform origination and greenfield development activities and to customize the community outreach program.
