IOWN is a renewable energy developer and service provider headquartered in La Jolla, CA. Our focus is strongly targeted toward expertly developing utility-scale renewable energy projects (Wind, Solar PV and Energy Storage) in all stages of the development life cycle. Position Summary

IOWN is looking for a Manager, Project Origination to join our growing team. The person will lead the development, planning, and execution of new utility-scale wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects throughout CAISO, WECC, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, and/or other markets identified by the Company. This role will identify new best-in-class projects through a combination of technical expertise, market insights, greenfield prospecting, and strategic partnerships. The Manager is responsible for identifying and advancing greenfield opportunities while managing the evaluation of M&A prospects. Leveraging in-depth knowledge of market intelligence, resource assessment, transmission planning, power deliverability, and permitting requirements. will design and implement strategies to achieve key early-stage development milestones. They will coordinate across cross-functional teams including GIS, resource assessment, transmission planning, market analysis, permitting, and land acquisition to ensure projects are positioned for long-term success, aligned with market demands, and highly competitive.

This role will oversee the due diligence process for early-stage project opportunities, including interconnection feasibility studies, GIS modeling, electrical injection studies, policy research, stakeholder engagement, and preliminary project design.

Requirements

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in a business or technical discipline or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in strategic research, analysis and planning, business development, project development, or a related field within the energy industry.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • A deep understanding of the energy industry and the regulatory environment is a plus.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability.
  • Organized, diligent, and able to track and manage multiple streams of information on an ongoing basis.
  • Ownership of workflows to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Strong cross-cultural relationship building and influencing at all organizational levels.
  • Flexible and cooperative with a well-developed team spirit.
  • Current driver’s license and ability to travel extensively is required. Maintain legally required insurance.
  • Excellent computer skills working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. and the ability to effectively work on spreadsheets, word processing, networking, and e-mail programs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the day-to-day project origination process including opportunity sourcing, evaluation, analysis, resourcing, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Provide strategy for locating, identifying, and managing greenfield opportunities.
  • Lead due diligence efforts for M&A opportunities.
  • Negotiate certain agreements and contracts with 3rd parties, including but not limited to consulting and services agreements.
  • Coordinate offtake evaluations, resource assessments, feasibility studies, buildability assessments, and electrical injection studies to evaluate project feasibility.
  • Collaborate with land acquisition and interconnection teams to progress opportunities through key early-stage development milestones.
  • Support in the monitoring of local, state, and federal policy impacting renewables.
  • Foster relationships with local, county, state, and federal permitting agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with zoning/planning departments.
  • Evaluate and understand technology specific project needs.
  • Understand hybridization and integration of technologies and ensure coordination with financial modeling efforts.
  • Coordinate efforts across development and commercial teams to ensure project origination goals are achieved.
  • Manage utility interconnection queue cluster participation strategies including schedules, budgets, and technologies.

Compensation

$110,000-160,000 Annually

The above-listed salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in San Diego, CA. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
