Job description

IOWN Renewable Energy, Inc. is seeking a GIS Specialist to perform technical duties in preparing and maintaining geographic data concerning operations with the Geographic Information System (GIS). The person will help to provide data analysis, data conversion, and specific GIS project management for the renewable energy development team. Day to day operations of this position will include performing GIS functions using software to produce maps, charts, graphs and reports to illustrate the results of this analysis and workflow. This role will refine your GIS thought processes and skillsets while challenging you to create efficient workflows, anticipate the team’s needs, and meet them in an effective manner!

The candidate will work for a rapidly growing renewable energy company headquartered in San Diego which seeks an innovative, focused, and motivated leader to start a team of professionals doing commercial modeling of projects and deal structures.

Seniority level will be based on candidate experience.

Requirements

  • Must have a degree in GIS, geography, environmental studies, or related field with demonstrated capabilities in GIS.
  • 3 years in a full-time GIS role strongly preferred
  • Interest and experience in renewable energy is preferred but not required.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Esri ArcGIS desktop software, including ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro
  • Ability to work with vector and raster datasets.
  • Experience using ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Portal, or another web mapping system.
  • Strong understanding of and ability to use and edit shapefiles and geodatabases (personal, file, and enterprise)
  • Experience working with different coordinate systems, map projections, and datum’s.
  • Demonstrated ability to build maps, exhibits and geo-spatial projects.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of creativity, initiative, and accountability. You are innovative and constantly looking for ways to tweak and optimize processes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Flexible and cooperative with a well-developed team spirit.

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify GIS datasets, manage, and maintain legacy GIS datasets develop and implement GIS-based analyses supporting wind, solar, and battery storage projects.
  • Data creation, interpretation and organization is the dominant portion of the job duties envisioned for this position, but will be balanced with a variety of cartography, field staff support, and research and development.
  • Core responsibility includes processing data and graphics requests from project team members and anticipating information needs and presentation format as part of engineering and GIS workflows.
  • Develop and maintain geospatial data on desktop, mobile and cloud data storage applications.
  • Candidates with experience working with GIS Data on either AWS or MSCloud networks given extra consideration.
