Job description

IOWN Renewable Energy, Inc. is seeking a Director, Standalone Storage Development to lead development of stand-alone utility-scale energy storage and renewable hybrid projects in North America from inception to site development and through financial close. This is a dynamic role in a growing organization. The Director of Standalone Storage and New Technologies will manage existing projects and contribute to expanding the portfolio of projects.

The candidate will work for a rapidly growing renewable energy company headquartered in San Diego which seeks an innovative, focused, and motivated leader to start a team of professionals doing commercial modeling of projects and deal structures.

Remote candidates will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates who live in or can relocate to San Diego area, CA.

Seniority level will be based on candidate experience. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Standalone Storage

  • While managing and driving the development of your team, you will take ownership of the business and project development activities related to the existing stand-alone utility-scale battery storage projects and origination of new greenfield projects across the US.
  • You are a proactive problem solver and a decision-maker who can complete and lead the completion of all aspects of project development, including siting federal, state, and local permitting, engineering, interconnection studies, procurement, and construction planning.
  • In the position, you will lead technical and commercial due diligence of stand-alone utility-scale energy storage projects and support due diligence for hybrid renewable energy projects in all stages of development.
  • Coordination and management of stand-alone utility-scale energy storage and renewable hybrid development tasks and services including but not limited to site acquisition, permitting, environmental permitting, engineering, interconnection studies, procurement, and construction planning.
  • Lead or participate in technical and commercial due diligence of stand-alone utility-scale energy storage projects in all stages of the development phase, for acquisition, or sale.
  • Participate in technical and commercial due diligence of hybrid renewable energy projects in all stages of the development phase, for acquisition, or sale.
  • Coordination of all federal, state, and local permits and studies.
  • As projects advance in the development process, duties include working with other internal and external staff regarding off-take of power, project financial modeling, arrangements for finance, and construction and operations.

Collaboration

  • You will work with other internal and external staff to support the offtake of power and arrangements for finance and preparation for construction and operations.
  • You will assist or lead teams responsible for detailed design and layouts of stand-alone energy storage projects and support land acquisition and entitlement for assigned projects. You will participate in energy assessments, revenue stacking models, and technology with respect to battery solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business or technical discipline.
  • At least 3+ years of utility-scale renewable energy industry development experience with 2 years in battery energy storage.
  • Keen understanding of supply and demand, policy/regulation, markets, and financial metrics that drive successful project development.
  • Familiarity with energy storage supply agreements.
  • Experience managing other developers of various experience levels.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Driven to get things done.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in energy assessments and revenue stacking models. This includes organization and assistance of the various components of energy and financial analysis, with a keen understanding of energy, capacity, ancillary service markets and economics.
  • Participate in bidding, evaluation, and procurement of certain services and contractors (environmental, permitting, engineering, procurement, construction).
  • Support technology assessment and market intelligence with respect to battery solutions to be incorporated in project designs and bids, inclusive of full understanding of project build and costs as well as operational costs.
  • Assist or lead, as applicable, any contract review, negotiation, and management of contracts.
  • Monitor battery energy storage local and federal policy development.
  • Responsible for regular progress and budget reporting including written and oral status updates as required to various stakeholders.
  • Participate in regular team meetings over phone, video conference or in person.
