Job description

IOWN Renewable Energy, Inc. is seeking a Director, Interconnection and Transmission to join our team. This is an opportunity to support the growth of IOWN and IOWN clients by utilizing your development and project management experience. This would be a fantastic opportunity to step into a smaller, innovative and nimble team putting to use your passion for leadership and utility-scale project development and services all while working collaboratively with the wind, solar and standalone storage teams in North America.

The candidate will work for a rapidly growing renewable energy company headquartered in San Diego which seeks an innovative, focused, and motivated leader to start a team of professionals doing commercial modeling of projects and deal structures.

About the Position

The Director, Interconnection and Transmission will be responsible for leading all transmission modeling efforts for utility scale wind, solar + storage, standalone storage and solar only projects- other than physical interconnection. This analytical work will be done on behalf of Power Analytics to support the siting and development of new projects, for M&A acquisition of and /or sale of projects, and in support of debt or equity raises for projects.

Requirements

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technical discipline or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Candidate expected to have a current CEII certificate necessary for running curtailment software or be willing to obtain one.
  • Experience working with TARA and/or other ISO Queuing software a strong plus.
  • Experience modeling and simulating GIA upgrade costs is a strong plus.
  • Experience working with 3rd party injection and interconnection studies.
  • Experience working with PSCAD and/or PSLF or other flow simulation software a strong plus.
  • Experience performing SCED work in multiple RTOs preferred. Knowledge of CAISO, WECC, ERCOT a plus.
  • Experience with translating specific technology parameters into energy or resource production models.
  • Experience with electrical collection system designs and electrical grid interconnections, including single line diagrams, permit applications, compliance with utility standards and electrical codes.
  • Strong cross-cultural relationship building and influencing at all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability.
  • Ownership of workflows to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and/or manage 3rd party injection and nodal market analysis to support the siting, development, and acquisition of utility scale solar, storage and solar + storage projects.
  • Direct 3rd party performance of curtailment and congestion studies and run the same as required.
  • Track interconnection timing and upgrade costs and model or manage 3rd party studies.
  • Proven capability to work with SCED systems such as PROMOD and/or GridView or Aurora/Plexos. Experience working with more than one software a plus.
  • Track record of running SCED, curtailment and congestion simulations and working with 3rd party providers for the same.
  • Review interconnection study models and interconnection request packages.
