About Us

IOWN is a renewable energy developer and service provider headquartered in La Jolla, CA. Our focus is strongly targeted toward expertly developing utility-scale renewable energy projects (Wind, Solar PV and Energy Storage) in all stages of the development life cycle. Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Business Development Intern to support IOWN’s commercial team during the summer/fall of 2025. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in offtake research, market analysis, CRM implementation, and compliance tracking. The intern will work cross-functionally with the commercial, development, and legal teams to support strategic outreach and transaction processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress (minimum two years of university coursework) in business, finance, engineering, or energy-related fields.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with attention to commercial relevance.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Initiative and curiosity when approaching new tasks or solving problems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data manipulation, charts, and basic modeling).
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar).
  • Demonstrated interest in the energy sector, sustainability, or infrastructure development.
  • Ability to clearly present research findings and contribute to business development materials
  • Basic understanding of financial modeling and contractual terms preferred.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountability.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Current driver’s license and ability to travel extensively is required. Maintain legally required insurance.
  • Excellent computer skills working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. and the ability to effectively work on spreadsheets, word processing, networking, and e-mail programs.
  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
  • The employee will occasionally lift and/or carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Travel up to 15%
  • Employee may use computer, phone, copier and other office equipment in the course of a day.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct market research to identify potential off takers and assess their procurement needs in various power markets in the US.
  • Attend webinars and review industry reports to remain current on market trends and emerging developments, while sharing key insights to the broader team
  • Research PPA pricing data from online sources, public filings, and industry reports to benchmark competitiveness and support commercial team with financial model inputs
  • Support the development of outreach strategies and help initiate contact with new commercial counterparties.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of a CRM system to organize and track business development activities.
  • Help create and maintain a compliance matrix to monitor obligations and deliverables under executed offtake agreements.
  • Support general transactions and business development functions as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Compensation

$20.00 - $23.00 / hr

The above-listed salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in San Diego, CA. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
