Job description

IOWN Renewable Energy, Inc. is seeking an Associate, Commercial Analysis to leverage your skills in financial modelling, market analysis, risk assessment, and project valuation! You'll evaluate investment opportunities, gather and analyze data from diverse sources, and collaborate with finance, legal, and project development teams to align business strategies. The candidate will work for a rapidly growing renewable energy company headquartered in San Diego which seeks an associate to advance greenfield project development and M&A. The candidate will directly impact key decisions and participate in an open and collaborative company culture. The candidate will gain exposure to utility scale projects across various technologies (PV, Wind, BESS, hybrid, and emerging technologies) at various stages of project lifecycle (early, mid, and late-stage M&A and greenfield development), in various geographies across the continental US. The candidate’s contribution is vital in enhancing the financial and strategic dimensions of renewable energy projects to maximize IOWN's economic success.

The candidate will work for a rapidly growing renewable energy company headquartered in San Diego which seeks an innovative, focused, and motivated leader to start a team of professionals doing commercial modeling of projects and deal structures.

Remote candidates will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates who live in or can relocate to San Diego area, CA.

Seniority level will be based on candidate experience.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel software to facilitate effective data analysis and modeling tasks.
  • Python, Matlab, and/or Tableau preferred (training platforms and crash courses are available for skill enhancement.)
  • A foundational understanding of finance and accounting terminology to facilitate clear communication and collaboration.
  • Industry interest or experience in renewable energy, though prior sector experience may not be obligatory.
  • Proficiently conducting market research, skilled at gathering and interpreting data from a variety of sources to inform decision-making processes.
  • Research and reporting capabilities, synthesizing complex information into comprehensive reports for strategic insights and decision-making.
  • Demonstrate effective teamwork alongside company management, coworkers, and employees.
  • Utilize tact and diplomacy in interactions with company personnel, clients, customers, and regulatory agencies. Recognize the importance of cultivating healthy relationships to accomplish team objectives.
  • Maintain open and consistent communication with company manager, coworkers, and employees.
  • Written and oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Driver’s license and ability to travel extensively is required. Maintain legally required insurance.
  • Computer skills working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. and the ability to effectively work on spreadsheets, word processing, networking, and e-mail programs.


  • Modeling tasks, providing support across various modeling activities conducted regularly.
  • Market research proficiently, adept at gathering and interpreting data from various sources to inform decision-making processes.
  • In-depth research and analysis, and subsequently synthesizing complex data into comprehensive reports aimed at facilitating strategic decision-making processes.
  • Work with other internal and external teams and colleagues in the development, construction, and asset management of projects.
  • Present findings of analyses to key stakeholders and decision makers.
